UNOAU Participates in Consultative Meeting on the Strategic Review of the African Standby Force

The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) participated in the Consultative Meeting on the Strategic Review of the African Standby Force (ASF) held in Accra, Ghana, on 16 and 17 October 2025.

The meeting forms part of a series of consultations with key stakeholders and brought together strategic partners, research institutions, centres of excellence, and training institutions to contribute to the ongoing review process.

The Strategic Review of the ASF seeks to explore options and develop recommendations towards the conceptualization of a “Collective African Security Framework” within the context of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). The process is guided by lessons learned and accumulated experience with the aim of ensuring that the ASF is fit for purpose and capable of addressing Africa’s contemporary peace and security challenges.

The outcomes of the meeting will be consolidated with feedback from consultations with Member States and Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs) to form a comprehensive submission to the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC).

UNOAU’s participation underscores its continued support to the African Union Commission and its partners in advancing collective approaches to peace and security on the continent, in line with the UN–AU Joint Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security.
