Closure of UNMIL

The United Nations Mission in Liberia was established in October 2003 to support for the implementation of a ceasefire agreement and peace process, and to assist with the maintenance and restoration of law and order throughout Liberia. The mission successfully completed its mandate on 30 March 2018.

· President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has opened the Grand Gedeh County Service Center; describing it as a major step in providing basic public services to rural inhabitants.

· The Ministry of Education has refuted claims that, Minister George Werner has threatened to dismiss primary school teachers in the country for absenteeism.

Reacting to Mr. Bleetahn, the Secretary General, National Teachers Association of Liberia, Samuel Johnson says a lot needs to be addressed in the education sector to improve performance; he argues that teachers and the government are partners in progress and called for harmonious working relationship

· Liberia has launched National Quality Award; an initiative of ECOWAS to promote a quality infrastructure concept in order to compete in local and regional markets.

· The Alumni Association of the University of Liberia says it has stepped up efforts to assist in the running of the institution.

Huge advances have been made against many tropical diseases but growing urbanization has created what UN health experts are calling a huge breeding ground for sickness.
